Koncept and simulation of shelter for our art project in San Javier inspired by simple text our students Jana, Pia and Ramona wrote.
Shelter
It's sometimes not enough to go into your room, close the door and try to throw aside all negativity and get away from people. It sometimes takes something more, sometimes you need to go outside and walk, or run… you can run… if you’re having that day then run… and run… and run… and run. Then you come… come to the forest, to you place, your little utopia… yet the forest is not a utopia… the forest is the cell wall of your utopia. Now that you’re there it’s easier to breathe because you’re already close… and you feel it… and you come to your place.
A small cocoon in the midst of the forest, hanging from a tree, barely visible and those who don’t know it’s there might simply pass it by… It’s barely visible because it is encased in glass. It was encased in glass in order for one to disappear, to be one with yourself in your utopia, somewhere far away. You enter into a small space, but it doesn’t matter… you feel the warmth as soon as you come in. You hear yourself… your thoughts. You turn on a solar-powered lightbulb and pull a book out of your bag.
Today’s choice is “The Enchanter” by Vladimir Nabokov. You dangle in your forest cocoon and read…isolated…invisible. And you read… and read… and read… and when you almost reach the end of the book the light starts to fade around you… and you decide to leave and turn off the light… and you come out, like a butterfly leaving its cocoon – reborn, fresh and happy… You can proudly return to the cruel world from which you escaped… but now it’s less cruel…. Now it’s bearable.
